General Information
All volunteers that work with children/youth or have the potential of working with children/youth at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church & School are required to complete all Archdiocesan sponsored child protection trainings.
If you intend on volunteering with our Parish and/or School you must attend an in-person Creating a Safe Environment (C.A.S.E) Training and complete a background check. The background check is done through our Training Service Provider, Praesidium. Any prior State or other agency background checks will not be accepted.

At this time we do not have any Creating A Safe Environment (C.A.S.E) trainings scheduled here at St. John the Baptist. Please check with the Department of Child Protection/Victim Assistance for a schedule of upcoming trainings that are occuring throughout the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon.

Frequently Asked
I completed the in-person C.A.S.E training at a different Church, do I need to take the training again?
If you completed the in-person C.A.S.E training at a different Church, you will need to provide a copy of your certificate to our Parish or School Office. If you do not have a copy of your certificate, please contact our Parish or School Office Managers. They may be able to track down the record of your training with the Archdiocese.How long is the training?
The initial in-person C.A.S.E training is 2 hours.I've completed a Federal, State or other agency background check before, do I have to complete a background check again?
Yes. Background checks are single use. Any background checks you've completed for employment, volunteer positions, etc. will not be accepted.
Our background check service provider is Praesidium. You will receive instructions on how to complete your background check
after you attend the in-person C.A.S.E training.
You will be required to complete a background check every 3 years.I've already complete child protective training with my employer, am I required to complete the C.A.S.E training?
Yes, unless you are an employee of the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon or an employee/volunteer at a Parish within the Archdiocese of Portland. If you are an employee within the Archidocese of Portland, you will need to contact our Parish or School Office Managers in order to initate a record transfer.
Child protective training is non-transferable between organizations or agencies, regardless of your occupation, employer, etc.Is this the only training I have to complete?
No, as volunteers at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School and within the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon, you will be expected to complete regular continuing education trainings. You will recieve an online account and login to Praesidium once you complete the in-person C.A.S.E training. All continuing education trainings are completed online through your Praesidium account.
